Because of the emergency caused by the COVID- 19 pandemic for many aspects unknown , dramatic , and why the whole world is isolated, it is fundamental to feel close and united . It is in crisis situations that the true nature of our society and of people emerges , for better and for worse , and special thanks goes to all the blood donors , that also after the strict measures imposed to curb the spread of coronavirus in all these months, have contributed to donate their blood . Donate means to disseminate the values of solidarity , means also social and civil participation and so it is the occasion to remember that together we are able to overcome all the difficulties. TOGETHER WE WILL SUCCEED . The European Blood Alliance (EBA) and the International Plasma and Fractionation Association (IPFA), held an IPFA/EBA Workshop on Plasma Collection in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, on 14-15 January 2020.The IPFA/EBA Workshop on Plasma Collection focused on key considerations and strategies for increasing the supply of voluntary non-remunerated donation plasma for fractionation from blood establishments in Europe and other regions of the world and working towards the goal of strategic independence for the supply of Plasma Derived Medicinal Products (PDMPs).FIODS took part in this high-level meeting to underline the crucial role of donor associations in recruitment and retention of voluntary and non remunerated plasma donors.The Federation is proud of the strategic partnership with EBA and is looking forward to developing more shared projects to promote the importance of VNRD and the role and protection of donors....

FIODS Conference, Bruxelles – 28 October 2019
On the 28th October 2019 the European Commission organised a Conference to present and give stakeholders an opportunity to discuss the findings of its Evaluation of the EU blood and tissues and cells legislation, carried out since 2017.The conference, moderated by Vivienne Parry – a well-known broadcaster and journalist – was attended by several stakeholders from blood and tissue establishments, national authorities, patient and donor associations and industry. On this occasion, FIODS was invited to present the point of view of donors and their associations in the Conference session dedicated to “The challenge of ensuring that all EU citizens affected by the BTC [blood, tissues, cells] chain are protected”.The Conference highlighted many crucial topics (related, in particular, to donor protection, promotion of VNRD and need to ensure sufficiency for blood and blood components in every EU country) on which the Federation will keep working with its members and strategic partners in the following months.
