IFBDO participation in the Ad-Hoc Meeting between Stakeholders and representatives of members of the Competent Authorities on Substances of Human Origin Expert Group
Brussels, 22nd June 2017 The meeting took place at the Centre A. Borschette with the participation of the representatives of the European Commission DG SANTE, members of the Substances of Human Origin Expert Group, delegations of EU member States and invited stakeholders. In addition to the IFBDO, stakeholders included the European Blood Alliance (EBA), the Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association (PPTA), the International Plasma Fractionation Association (IPFA), the International Patient Organisation for Primary Immunodeficiencies (IPOPI), the European Haemophilia Consortium (EHC) and the International Haemovigilance Network (IHN). Each stakeholder was given the chance to share his views on the agenda topic of “blood and blood components donor protection”, with the aim to identify the points of major common concern. IFBDO presented the cooperation and training projects that is currently promoting in many regions and underlined the importance of shared guidelines on this topic. Moreover, it stressed the point that education and retention of blood donors is a crucial way to ensure safety and stability of the blood transfusion system by protecting its main actors. To that end, the Federation and its member Associations can provide a know-how that might be even more effective than the actions put in place by public authorities. GENERAL ASSEMBLY FIODS, MADRID – 27/29 APRIL 2017
On April 28, the FIODS delegation was received by the Director, Dr. Luisa Barea, of the Transfusion Center of Madrid, where all the blood bags collected in the region converge and, after validation, are redistributed to the 65 health facilities in the area, of which, 34 public and 31 private hospitals. We were subsequently received by the President of the Spanish National Parliament, Hon. Cristina Cifuentes, who praised the mission of our Federation. MISSION in EL SALVADOR From February 25th to March 5th, 2017
The mission took place from February 25th to March 5th, 2017 in the city of San Salvador in El Salvador. The event ” workshop among the National Blood programmes, Blood Banks and volunteer donors Associations in El Salvador and Guatemala and Organization, Fidelization and Management Course” was held within the project “Improvement in transfusion safety and quality in Bolivia, El Salvador and Guatemala”. The goals of the mission were: – analyse the information about transfusion systems; – volunteers training; – realize experimental projects between Associations and Blood Banks; – realize agreements between Blood Banks and Associations. Thanks to this project, AVIS and FIODS get close to these nations to share experiences and competences, in order for them to reach independence and guarantee patients access to the transfusion therapies they need. 16th IFBDO International Youth Forum
The 16th edition of IFBDO International Youth Forum, for the first time held in the Middle East, is coming in a few weeks! Once more young volunteers of blood donors organizations from 15 countries are going to take part in several educational activities. They are going to spread the message of voluntary, non-remunerated blood donation and, at the same time, exchange their experiences from different countries. Featuring the theme of “YALLA: Exchange, Explore, Enjoy”, the Forum, organized by the Lebanese association Donner Sang Compter (DSC) in cooperation with the International Youth Committee (IYC), will cover various issues and initiatives linked to the involvement of the volunteers, and will discuss ways to thank and motivate them. The organizing committee has prepared an high-level training program with speeches from experts, workshops, as well as lot of different activities, in order to convey and share with the around 60 participants as much know-how and experience as possible. Moreover, some sessions are going to be broadcasted live on the Internet for first time (follow our updates for further details!), so that everyone can attend the work of the young participants and be part of the 16th IYF!
