May 27th, Dallas (Texas): the President of the Blood Donors Association of America welcomed the IFBDO President, Mr. Gian Franco Massaro. On the 28ththe Blood Donors of America (BDA) and the Society of American Nepalese Nurses (SANN), two organization that constantly work together, organized the “First Joint Convention”. The President, Lila B. Karki, during his intervention highlighted that the Association is present in 50 countries of the USA. That contributed saving more than three million human lives. Then, on the 29th, they organized a mega blood collection: there were 250 donors giving blood. It was a new record compared to last year numbers, when they registered only 150 units in one day. IFBDO GENERAL ASSAMBLY APRIL 30TH 2016, LISBON
On April 30th, the IFBDO General Assembly took place at the public library of Lisbon. Representatives of 32 countries, of the 42 that have the right to vote, attended it. It was a great success. IFBDO and WHO Collaboration Agreement Signature March 18th, 2016, Naples (Italy) The IFBDO President, Mr Gian Franco MASSARO, signed an important project of collaboration with the WHO. The collaboration will last 2 years and it is aimed to the implementation of blood donation in the Mediterranean area. Its budget will be of 250 thousands euros per year. The Agreement in the collaboration project states the frame of the collaboration between the WHO and the IFBDO, in order to develop and support initiatives of the WHO Member Countries of the East Mediterranean Region. The main objective of the project is to fulfil patients’ needs and ensure blood product availability and safety. For this purpose, they require specific approaches and coordinated efforts of the Health Ministries, National Associations, IFBDO and offices of the WHO located in the interested countries. It is the first time that the WHO stipulates a similar agreement with a Blood Donation Association and thanks to its President, Mr Gian Franco Massaro’s, commitment and merits they chose IFBDO. 60th Anniversary of the IFBDO
Last Friday, December 4th, in Montecarlo it was celebrated the 60th anniversary of the foundation of the IFBDO. An amazing successful event, perfectly organized, with the participation of more than 20 representatives coming from all over the world. During his presentation, the IFBDO President, Mr Gian Franco Massaro, went through the 60 years of history of the IFBDO, recalling the main and most meaningful moments, since the far December 4th, 1955. An important moment was also when he recalled all the former IFBDO Presidents, the commitments and the goals achieved. Official visit of the IFBDO President to Algeria-24/28 October 2015
October 24th– 28th, 2015 On the 24th, the President of the Algerian Blood Donor Federation, Dr Kaddour Gherbi, welcomes the IFBDO President, Mar. Gianfranco Massaro, at the airport of Algeri. During this official visit, he participated in several important meetings, together with local authorities, associations and volunteers. The main events were: the meeting with the Minister of Health, the meeting with the Red Cross Directors, visits to hospitals and Blood Banks. On the 25th, he participated in the 10th anniversary of the Algerian Foundation. On the occasion, there were many donors and local authorities and he gave to the Ministry of Health, Dr Boudiaf Abdelmalek, the International Award for Blood Donation. On the 26th, he visited the TransfusionCentre of SHU Mustapha Alger and he had a good impression of it. In 2014, the blood units collected were 508.934 and during the first semester of 2015, they were 278.734. Blood rate is 13.66: 1000 inhabitants. On the 27th, he participated in the national TV programme together with the Blood National General Director, the President of the Algerian Federation and the President of the African Continental Committee, in order to speak about blood donation situation in the world. In the same day, he also visited the Algerian federation offices. His visit finished on the 28th. Official visit of the IFBDO President to Portugal
November 5th– 6th, 2015 Recently the President, Mr Gian Franco Massaro, went to Lisbon, were he met with the President of the Fas Portugal Association, Mr Joaquim Martins Mendes Silva de Domingos Maneta, member of the IFBDO Board, in order to organize and plan the next IFBDO General Assembly, that will took place in Portugal next April 30th, 2016. Then, he met the major of Lisbon and they chose the Public Library as location for the General Assembly and the Gala Dinner.
