The IFBDO/FIODS has for a number of years celebrated The International Blood Donor Day on 23rd May. The World Health Organization, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the International Society for Blood Transfusion and the IFBDO decided in 2003 to co-sponsor the WORLD BLOOD DONOR DAY on 14 June every year, starting from 2004.
What is World Blood Donor Day ?
The collaborating organizations represent 194 Member States, 187 national Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, 70 voluntary blood donor organizations and blood transfusion specialists throughout the world. World Blood Donor Day is a special opportunity for a united, global celebration.

All governments have committed themselves to support the World Blood Donor Day. Since 2004 every country has participated with a wide variety of activities including community awareness campaigns, donor recognition ceremonies, poster competitions, Blood Centre Open Days and fun events.
